Food and Drink. They say if you get the consumables right, the rest will fall in to place. People expect to be fed and watered well at parties, regardless of who actually brings the goods. If you are looking to cut back on cost then ask people to bring a bottle of their own wine or some nibbles with them. If you provide food it doesn’t need to be expensive though. Some potato chips and dip always go down well and why not get a pineapple slicer and serve chunks of it on sticks with cheese.

Tableware. Even if you are not supplying all the drinks and nibbles, you’ll certainly will be expected to supply the cups and plates. Often people go for the disposable kind to save on the cleaning up time and also prevent any breakages of your lovely plates. You should lay everything out before the party starts and make sure you have plenty to go around so that people can just serve themselves as they arrive

Music. If you don’t anything to play music on or your own band you might as well call the party off. You’ll want some inoffensive tunes playing in the background the whole time, but make sure it’s not so loud that people cannot talk to each other though. The music can be changed later in the evening when people put on their dancing feet and fancy a boogie
